The Teleport Service Guide

You might have heard people asking for teleports while standing in Jeuno or any of the other cities. Teleporting to the different regions of Vana’diel have become more and more popular and some White Mages like to think of this service as a good way of making money. I wrote this guide to help other White Mages streamline their teleportation services to earn as much money as possible in the least amount of time.

It’s all about speed

People ask for a teleport to get somewhere in a fast and convenient way, so your main goal is to get them to their destination as fast as possible.

Where should I teleport from?

Although you may find people asking for a teleport service in all cities, Lower Jeuno or Aht Urghan Whitegate is your best bet since most people are gathered here. The demand varies a lot but there is usually always someone asking for a teleport. Since Lower Jeuno is the most popular place for teleports you should also expect some competition.

Most White Mages prefer to stand outside the Residential Area in the north-eastern part of Lower Jeuno. You should try to stand on the side so people don’t run into you (obstructing them). A few White Mages also stay at the home point in the south-western part.

How much should I charge?

Different servers have different prices, so the ones I use doesn’t neccesarily fit with your own server. Most White Mages charges 500 gil to teleport people to Mea, Dem and Holla, 700 gil to Altep and Yhoat and 1,000 gil to Vahzl. As of lately the prices have changed a lot so 1,000 gil for the basics and 2,000 gil for the Vahzl one isn’t uncommon. You should probably stick with the established prices for your own server.

When people look for a teleport they are usually willing to pay a bit more than the current prices. Leaving out the prices in your soliciting ads might help you earn a bit more than you if you had asked for a fixed amount of gil. You will get paid even though you don’t mention any prices, and for those who try to get a free teleport you can simply just say what you charge.

If you have problems remembering who paid and who did not, try to keep track of them on a sheet of paper. Write down their name or party position number (2-6), destination and if they have paid yet. You can also make a
/p {Thank you}, ‹t›.
macro.

When you want to trade with people, use /ta [CustomersName]   if it’s too crowded to tab through the area. It’s a lot faster to just target the customer by hitting F2-F6 depending on where on the party member list their name is.

If for some reason either you or one of the customers get d/c during a teleport, make sure he or she gets to their destination before considering the deal completed. Also, be ready to give someone a refund if something were to happen.

Be polite!

The people you teleport are your customers and should be treated as such. Thank them for using your services and do your best to make the trip as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Also, you should wait a few seconds before warping back to your homepoint or teleporting to your next destination in case someone asked for the wrong tele. If they bid you farewell, disband, /wave, /bow or thank you then you should have confirmation enough. Also, some of the customers might come back later and ask for a second teleport. Being courteous usually means they’ll use your services again in the future.

Make sure you greet your customers upon accepting your invite and after you have transported him to his destination. Since you may have a few Japanese customers it is usually a good idea to have a fully translated macro set. More on that later.

Don’t run out of MP

You should always make sure you have enough MP to teleport all of your customers to their destination. It’s rude to sit down to rest and leave your customers waiting.

Having your homepoint at the Residential Area in Lower Jeuno is a quick and convenient way to get your MP back in a jiffy instead of resting up for two minutes and missing out on valuable customers.

Where do I teleport first?

I personally believe it’s most fair to operate on a first-come-first-served basis. However, there are people who don’t have all their Gate Crystals, so make sure you don’t leave them behind because you teleported to a place he can’t go to. It’s therefor a good idea to ask your customers about the order of your teleports:
/p DEM > MEA > YHOAT, ok?

If you know everyone have all their Gate Crystals then just go with the first-come-first-served method. If you have lower level customers then you might want to teleport them to their destination first.

A few words about shouting

Let me just start off with saying: don’t! Most people hate shouts, and would be happy to black list those who won’t stop. It’s better to just wait for people to ask for one instead.

If you do decide to shout anyway, please make sure you don’t spam when are announcing your services. Keep your solicitation macro to a maximum of 2 or 3 lines and wait at least one to two minutes between each shout. You should also make sure the macros are fully translated so Japanese people know about your services.

If there is a high demand for teleports then it might be a good idea to just invite the people who are asking for a teleport instead of shouting.

How to invite people

Finding people, targetting them and sending an invite is usually very time consuming if there are a lot of people around you. Use /sea [Somename]   or the /pcmd add [Somename]   for faster invites.

Don’t keep people waiting

Do not keep people waiting! There is no need to wait for a full party of six members before you start teleporting. Try to gather people who are going to the same destination, then teleport and warp back to take care of the next batch. I personally prefer teleporting groups of people who are heading to the same destination instead of doing multi-teles which are a bit more harder to keep track of.

Don’t let your customers keep other customers waiting. If your customer suddenly has to go pick something up or refresh his signet, teleport without him and come back to give him a new teleport instead. Keeping people waiting is rude and should be avoided. Make sure you tell the person being left behind in advance though.

Special requests

Sometimes you will run into customers with special requests. It can be anything from teleporting a whole party to picking up someone at one crag and teleport him to another. You can be asked to offer a protectra/shellra or sneak/invisible people. Casting enhancing spells on your customers should be part of your fee – so don’t charge anything extra.

The extras

Some White Mages offer free gifts as a thank you to their paying customers. I’m one of them. Flowers are both cute and inexpensive and will surely bring a smile on your customers face. Food or fireworks are nice gifts as well. Be creative and stand out, that’s how you can get returning customers.
